What is Xarelto?
Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is a prescription medicine that acts as an anticoagulant (blood thinner) to prevent the formation of blood clots. Xarelto is manufactured by Bayer Pharmaceuticals and marketed by Janssen Pharmaceuticals.
Xarelto is used to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a type of blood clot that can occur after certain types of surgery. DVT can lead to blood clots in other areas, including the lungs. Xarelto is also used to lower the risk of stroke from blood clots in people with atrial fibrillation.Learn More About Xarelto

Lawsuits are being filed across the country for injuries and deaths from Xarelto. The lawsuits allege that the manufacturers of Xarelto did not provide adequate warning about the potential for serious bleeding, and did not require blood tests that would help to identify patients at a higher risk for serious bleeding.
Other allegations against Xarelto’s manufacturers include:
- The manufacturers of Xarelto used aggressive and expensive advertising campaigns claiming that Xarelto was superior to Warfarin, despite the higher rate of bleeding in patients taking Xarelto
- Patients and doctors were not properly warned about the serious and life threatening risk of bleeding associated with Xarelto, and not advised how to stop bleeding when it occurs
- Despite the numerous adverse events, injuries and deaths from Xarelto, the manufacturers continue to aggressively advertise the drug to increase their profits

Side Effects of Xarelto
More than 2,100 Xarelto adverse events and over 150 Xarelto deaths have been reported since it was approved in 2011. Serious side effects of Xarelto include:
- Excessive and uncontrollable bleeding
- Internal hemorrhaging
- Brain bleeding
- Gastrointestinal bleeding
- Heart attack
- Pulmonary embolism
Bleeding from Xarelto
The most serious side effect from Xarelto is uncontrolled bleeding, which can lead to hospitalization and can be fatal. While bleeding is a common side effect of many blood thinners, Xarelto has no antidote, so it can be difficult or impossible to stop the bleeding in some instances.
Xarelto has been linked to numerous hospitalizations and deaths due to severe bleeding. Xarelto Lawsuits allege that the manufacturers of Xarelto failed to adequately warn doctors and patients about the severe bleeding risks associated with Xarelto.Learn More
